The (Faculty) Appointment, Salary, Promotion, and Tenure (or ASPT) system at Illinois State University prescribes policies and procedures related to probationary and tenured faculty members at the University. The system is intended to appoint, reward, and retain a highly competent faculty through a democratic system that involves faculty in the evaluation of professional competence. ASPT policies applicable to probationary and tenured faculty in all academic units at the University are set forth in the Faculty Appointment, Salary, Promotion, and Tenure Policies document, effective January 1, 2023 (see ASPT 2023 below). The university ASPT document is supplemented by policies on the college and department/school levels (use the link in the navigation bar to the left to access them).

The ASPT system at Illinois State University is administered by a tiered set of committees elected by tenure-line faculty members. Committees are described below. See ASPT 2017 linked above for more information about each committee.
University Review Committee (URC)
URC is a university-wide committee charged with recommending ASPT policies to the Faculty Caucus of the Academic Senate, reviewing and approving college-level ASPT standards, considering department/school ASPT policies upon request, and rendering interpretations of university-wide ASPT policies. Use the link at the left to access minutes of URC meetings. Also see committee membership.
Faculty Review Committee (FRC)
FRC is charged with considering appeals from individual faculty members regarding promotion and tenure recommendations made by a CFSC, DFSC, or SFSC (see below). See committee membership.
College Faculty Status Committees (CFSC)
Each college at the University has a CFSC charged with developing and administering college-level ASPT policies (known as college standards) and for reviewing ASPT policies of their departments and schools for their alignment with university and college ASPT policies. Each CFSC makes recommendations regarding tenure and promotion of faculty in the college and serves as an appellate body for annual faculty performance evaluations. Department/School Faculty Status Committees (DFSC OR SFSC)
Each department and school at the University has a DFSC or SFSC charged with developing and administering department- or school-level ASPT policies (known as DFSC or SFSC guidelines).
